Welcome to the sheep's Cervinia 2002 tour page! The sheep visited Cervinia (in the Italian/Switz alps) in January 2002 between the 6th and 12th.

This year we welcomed Michelle, who we met in Livigno 2001. Michelle is from Cork, Ireland, and met Jean-Michel on the holiday. They have been together since (Jean has subsequently moved from Newtown to Cork). Also we welcomed Richard again from the London posse!

Surprise Fact: Compagnoni |
The
flock's return to Cervinia also took us back to the same hotel - the Compagnoni.
At first glance this hotel name may not mean anything special or ring any bells,
however, the hotel owner Archille Compagnoni is very famous indeed. A clue is
the numerous pictures of the K2 mountain around the place and Mr Compagnoni's
swollen fingers.
Mr Compagnoni was part of the 1954 expedition to the K2 mountain, and he and Lino Lacedelli were the first two people ever to reach the summit. You can read more about the attempts to ascend K2 here.
