Stories behind the pictures |
So
who were the big pullers of the week then? Well not much news here since a few
flock members were already spoken for back home, however the two clear leaders
were Kevin and Richard (a.k.a. Fred or Geoff). On Wednesday, we were out to
party and went into a new place - the Tavern (half-way along the main street).
This dark little pub downstairs proved to be quite lively, and not surprisingly
since the happy hour was from 22:30 to 23:30.
Once the happy hour started, a resident singer got up on stage and way to go - everyone gets dancing! It wasn't too long before Kev and Rich spot two Italian girls and within seconds are there chatting to them. Quite an achievement since they spoke hardly any English and we spoke no Italian!
Before you know it, they're up there dancing away (for some reason the Chicken Tonight advert suddenly springs to mind!). Diary entries were soon made for the next night to meet in the Dragon.
The next night after we arrive a fashionable hour and a half or so late, Kev's Susy is there but Rich's girl has done a no-show. We were all gutted for Rich. Oh well.
As for the rest of the flock? Michelle and Jean are just into each other; Daz is saving himself for home; Aled is desperate to get up there but lack of mobility puts a downer on things; Paul gives it a good shot without significant results; Ed's mind is elsewhere; Rich puts in a good effort but was blown out. The only person to get anywhere near was Kev. So in summary, poor performance all round. Must do better next time flock!
Isn't
the world small. It's not so unusual to meet some people on holiday who either
know of our home town in Wales or live not too far away (we met a bunch from
Brecon in the Grivola one night). However, the world seems even smaller when
things like this happen:
Friday night, we met in the Hotel bar prior to going out when this woman in the corner called us over. Turns out she saw some of our flock a few hours earlier and recognised us. She asked "have you lot been to Cleethorpes in the past?". Well the sheep typically come out a couple of times a year - once for the skiing holiday and for our Sun newspaper holiday weekend break in the town of Cleethorpes on the east cost of the UK. This lady in the hotel remembered us from there - she recalls talking to Darren one night in a pub. She lived in Cleethorpes but now lives in Milan. It's incredible ... it's the power of the sheep!
Last year we didn't make Cleethorpes, but it's on for this year - watch out for us sometime in April or May!!!
