Sauze 2000 Skiing Holiday |
On this page we have a selection of photo's from the Sheep's tour to the Skiing resort of Sauze d'Oulx in the Italian Alpes in January 2000.
The Flock Members |
The following flock members were present
Summary |
Sauze d'Oulx (generally pronounced "sow-zee-doo" or just "sauze") was the second skiing resort the sheep visited. It was early January 2000 when we went over there. A number of the flock were still new to skiing - namely for Kev, Daz and Aled it was only their second trip ever. We decided to give lessons a miss this time (after all, we'd gone to party and getting up for 10am is not much fun when you went to bed near to 6am!)
The original core skiing members were there of course - Mark and Kev Vedmore. This time a friend of theirs, Duncan, came along for the first time. Duncan brought his own skies which everyone took to mean that he was a reasonably proficient skier. After all if you take your own skies, you must be good. However the masquerade soon fell flat on its face (or his face) when up on the slopes, Duncan turned out to be the most novice of the group! We pissed ourselves laughing at this!
Sharon, a recruit from the stewardess group we'd met in Cervinia the year before also joined us. She chased us around dressed up as a wolf!
Hotel accommodation was lousy, especially for Kev, Daz and Aled who were on the bottom floor (deliberate choice so we didn't have to cope with steps when we were pissed). The toilet, shower room wasn't big enough to sling a cat in let alone do anything else. Aled saw more of the room than most, whilst suffering from flu for the entire duration of the holiday (ahhh!).
For most of the week, Kev and Daz held the group in suspense, with the forfeit night. This is where the sheep numbers came into play. The forfeit covered everyone - for one night you had to go out with nothing else on but your number. As you'll see from the photos, not everyone had the bottle to do this, however, Aled, Daz and Kev all did. With the judicious use of a eye mask thing and a couple of two-pronged pin, we managed to keep our dignity (only just though). Amazingly no cuts or scratches were obtained!
Talking of nakedness, two flock members did show all! There we were on a pub crawl when we go to this bar (the name of which escapes me) which has a couple of dancing poles. Thinking two girls dancing by the poles were just regular customers, Daz and Kev went over to join them. Girls subsequently disappeared (they were lap dancers it later transpired). Daz and Kev were somewhat intoxicated at this point and decided, when music to the full monty came on, to do the full monty. Off came the sheep costumes, all that was left was a hat. You can imagine the rest from there! Photo's below.
Whilst over there we met up with Phil Clark, the resident DJ in the disco "Bandito's" there. He set us a challenge - after a day's skiing, go out on the piss all night ready to make the first lift! For the season so far, many had promised to do this but none had. Fear not, sheep rise to such challenges. The two Kev's and Jean sailed right through the night, successfully making first lift and continuing to have a few bears on the way back down!
All in all though, it was an excellent holiday. Sauze is a pretty lively place with good night life. Especially of note is Pasticceria Gally (Gally's pizza restaurant) which generally stayed open until everyone had gone home

Resort Information |
For independent reviews of this resort, a good site to visit is: www.goski.com/rit/sauz.htm.
For skiing it is good for the moderate skiers but some of us, as beginners, found it quite tough going.
Night life is pretty good. Of note are the Scotch Bar, The Cotton Club and if you're into Disco's go to Bandito's alternatively go to Gally's Pizza restaurant which has music and food into the early hours.
